The 4.0 Grip Blueprint

Your grip is the one thing connecting you to every single shot you hit. And most players are white-knuckling it like they are trying to strangle a snake. Here is the blueprint: 1. Continental Grip is your default. Shake hands with the paddle, index knuckle on the bevel. 2. Kitchen line = pressure level 3. Think baby bird... you do not want to crush it, but you do not want to let it go. 3. Transition zone = level 4-5. Firm enough for control, loose enough for feel. 4. Drives and overheads = level 6-7. Never a death grip, even on power shots. 5. Choke up for quick net exchanges. Grip lower for reach and baseline power. A loose grip is a fast grip. Relaxed muscles contract faster than pre-loaded ones. That is why you can snap into a speed-up quicker when your hand starts soft. Try this: before every point, shake your paddle hand out. Pick up the paddle like it is made of glass. Only firm up when the ball demands it.
