Destroy the 3.5 Ceiling: The Traffic Light Rule

Pickleball Tips
Destroy the 3.5 Ceiling: The Traffic Light Rule - master shot selection to reach 4.0
Green light - ball above your paddle, attack and hit down at their feet
The 4.0 secret - read the ball height: chest attack, hip maybe, knee reset
Yellow light - ball at hip height, only attack with a roll volley or reset instead
Red light - ball below your knee, do not attack, reset softly into the kitchen

Swipe through this one... because I finally pinned down what separates the 3.5 crowd from the 4.0 players, and it has nothing to do with hitting harder. It's shot selection. And the easiest way I've found to teach it is to think like you're sitting at a stoplight. Before you swing, just read the HEIGHT of that ball against your body: • GREEN LIGHT (ball above your paddle) — attack now. Hit DOWN at their feet, not deep and long. This is your money shot, so don't let it sail past you. • YELLOW LIGHT (ball around hip height) — proceed with caution. Only go for it if you've actually got the roll volley to angle it down. If you don't have that shot yet, reset instead. No hero ball. • RED LIGHT (ball below your knee) — do NOT attack. Keep that paddle tip down, push it softly into the kitchen, and let THEM make the mistake. Here's the kicker... I'd bet 93% of 3.5 players attack the red lights anyway. They gamble on a shot that isn't there and hand over the point. The rules already make you clear the net and keep it in, so swinging up out of your shoelaces is just doing the opponent's job for them. Stop gambling. Read the height, then decide. That's 4.0 pickleball in a nutshell. Try this your very next game — call the color out loud in your head before every volley. It feels silly for about ten minutes, then it becomes automatic. #LimitlessPickleball #PickleballTips #PickleballStrategy #PickleballCoach
